Clonmel Celtic 2  Newtown FC 4

Shannon side Newtown FC made it through to the semi final of this competition in this ,their first year of entry ,after a great game in Clonmel against a home team which must have been surprised by the aggressive start which saw Kelly Molloy's throw in reach  Evelyn McGirl and her beautifully struck home over the head of the Celtic keeper Amanda Condon from all of  25 yards to put the Clare side in front. They could have gone further in front when Laura Hogan's great corner narrowly evaded the the head of the unmarked Gillian Grimes. Celtic ,despite the promptings of Pricila Kiely were having trouble settling and the Clare visitors tried to increase the lead as their midfield of Aine Ni Cormaic, Brenda Wall ,Hogan and McGirl dominated. On 22nd minutes a great exchange of passes between McGirl and NiCormaic ended with Michelle Clancy, making it 2 nil with a shot from 10 yards which gave Condon no chance. Finally Clonmel awoke and Louise Bourke dragging them into the game the began to dominate and should have converted their possession but the visitors defence was in resolute form with Rachel Mcgann organising brilliantly and Lillian O'Brien dominant in the air, in one of there attacks Ni Cormaic somehow managed to clear the ball off the line over the bar and out to safety. Newtown where awarded a free kick 30 yards out on the right hand corner which Kathy Whelan curled inside the far post catching Condon flat footed in the Clonmel goal to make the score 3 nil to the visitors. On the stroke of half time Clonmel where awarded a free kick on the edge of the 18 yard box which Jade Lobby converted beautifully giving Ursula McInerney no chance in the Newtown goals, leaving the score 3 -1 at half time. Newtown started the second half in the same fashion as the first half and should have increased their lead with Barbara Nzvaura twice going very close but for some great goalkeeping by Burke, on 66 minutes Ni Cormaic put a great through ball for Clancy to beat her marker and hit an unstoppable shot to score her second of the game and Newtown's fourth to put the game almost out of reach for the home side despite this Celtic battled hard and this resulted in them scoring from a free kick an exact replica of Lobby first half expert strike in the 90 minute.

This puts Newtown through to await the draw for the semi final.
